Dallas, Texas Zoo
The Dallas Zoo promises a full day of exciting and educational adventures for the whole family. The largest zoo in Texas, Dallas Zoo is spread among 95 acres and features extensive exhibits housing everything from tiny insects to elephants. The zoo is also recognized for its innovative research exhibits for endangered animals such as gorillas and tigers. Dallas Zoo is open daily, excluding Christmas.
Jake L. Hamon Gorilla Conservation Research Center. Study gorilla behavior at the zoo's Jake L. Hamon Gorilla Conservation Research Center as the enormous animals roam their 2-acre simulated equatorial forest habitat. This exciting exhibit has garnered a number of awards for its leading research and conservation efforts. Primate experts are on hand to answer questions about the resident western lowland gorillas.
ExxonMobile Endangered Tiger Habitat. Observe the stoic beauty of Indochinese and Sumatran tigers at the ExxonMobile Endangered Tiger Habitat. As a participant in the Species Survival Plan, the Dallas Zoo established this important exhibit to help breed these endangered tigers. The 1-acre exhibit resembles the cats' native rainforest habitat and features watering holes, boulders for sunning, and a glass viewing area for optimum viewing.
Lacerte Family Children's Zoo. In addition to fascinating exhibits and attractions, the Dallas Zoo also offers exciting things to do for young animal lovers. The Lacerte Family Children's Zoo features a petting farm, pony rides, educational exhibits with live animals, playground, and an innovative Nature Exchange that encourages children to bring in treasures they've collected in nature to exchange for prizes. The more a child knows about the found object, the more points are awarded for prizes.
